One Kudo, the cell phone interface makes typing in searches like youtube a breeze, i can even type things in with voice! I'm not into ripping movies, but I did copy a kid movie that I own that was getting pretty scratched onto the unit.

It played it like brand new. I would have given the unit a 5 Star except for the missing Western Digital TV Live Hub Media Center motion function and an occasional need to reboot like any good PC! Also, I found that it won't automatically find the downloads every time. But there is a function that allows the Media Library to be re organized and that will always find all the files. PS the remote works from anyplace in the room, no need to point at the unit. It must have a really bright IR transmitter!

Randomly freezes when playing netflix. Read online that others have had this problem.

Have found that standing it on it's side and keeping it in an open place has helped, but not gotten rid of the problem, so it may be an issue of overheating. Was a bit frustrating to sync files from another drive the first time.

Couldn't find a way to manually sync files, only auto sync. Had a difficult time watching files from another drive without syncing them, and ended up just syncing them, which took half of the day. Overall I would say that I am happy with this media player, although I have never owned any other, so I can't really say how it compares. The issues mentioned above have been an inconvenience, but we have still enjoyed using it, as it is a huge improvement to our previous set-up. And I can control it thru my SlingBox. I bought a Factory Refurb.

But it has no HDD. The drive is needed for Auto Updates. Without you have to do manual updates with a USB flash drive. A bit too much for the built in Media Manager.

Alas, you can end up with a lot of text file names without the nice thumbnail images you'd find, say, on an Apple product--or within the "controlled" environment of the Services section on this product. The user interface is clean, straightforward, and easy to navigate. The background image can be easily changed.

The 1TB hard drive does make this Western Digital TV Live Hub Media Center more expensive purchase than the Roku Player or Apple TV, and it should be pointed out that those units offer Wi-Fi connectivity while this model doesn't. However, that hard drive will appeal to a certain type of customer. Well, it's someone who has a lot of multimedia content stored on his or her computer and wants to throw it all onto one box and be able to connect it to a TV and play files directly from that box.

But the real differentiator here is the integrated hard drive that doubles as a networked drive that can be accessed by other PCs or game consoles such as the Xbox or PS3 in your home network. Live Hub supports playback of a wide variety of file formats, including audio and still-image files, but the user who will gravitate toward this box will probably be most interested in storing and viewing video files.

We threw a lot of files at the Live Hub and it played back all our test files without a hitch. The casual user won't know what we're talking about, but techie types are well versed in the various video compression schemes and formats.
